The HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Distance Sensor measures distance via sonar — similar to how bats navigate. Trigger pin sends an 8-cycle ultrasonic burst; Echo pin goes HIGH for a duration proportional to round-trip travel time. Accurate to 3mm. Not affected by sunlight or black surfaces. Acoustically soft materials (cloth, foam) may reduce detection reliability.
